freedom is a mindset, not a destination.

5 Benefits of Traveling

In life, how much you are willing to be uncomfortable is directly proportional to how much you get rewarded, which is why travel itself—which is chock full of both comfort and discomfort—is life-changing. Here are 5 great benefits of traveling:

  1. Increased self-confidence.

Travel brings many challenges. Getting lost, thievery, missing your ride, and losing luggage are just a few that may or may not present themselves along your travels. Unless you have a really great travel agent, chances are you’re going to need to account for a lot of things when booking a holiday. Sure, sometimes a fail or two is in order, but when you’ve accomplished a complicated route to another city, all by yourself, then nothing beats that feeling of confidence in yourself. It’s a feeling that can’t really be duplicated in another way, and shows us that we are capable of more than what we have already become and accomplished.
  1. Increased exposure.

To music, cultures, clothing styles, opportunities, food, ways of speaking and communicating, philosophies, religions, etc. This all makes for a mindset that is less judgmental, more accepting of people and their differences, and overall more peaceful.

  2. Increased open-mindedness & empathy.

To visit a city completely different from your own is a culture shock to some, but when one looks for similarities AND differences, the experience can be that much more intoxicating. Seeing all of us have many things in common despite living so far apart is a great way to develop empathy for others.

  3. Experimentation.

Maybe you don’t really know what to do with your time that would bring fulfillment—travel allows us to expand our horizons and show us more of what’s out there, creating the perfect environment for experimentation and development of something we never even considered before. This can lead to stellar job opportunities, amazing friendships, and overall incredible experiences to never forget.
  1. Improved immune function.

Travel causes many of us to get sick quite often while traveling, but the good news is this only makes our bodies stronger after every illness. The more germs the human body is exposed to, the more we are able to fight off in the long run (assuming it is a healthy body to begin with and we are still working to give our bodies proper rest & nutrients to fight those foreign bodies off). Eventually our immune systems are strengthened to help us avoid future sicknesses.

These are just some of the many great reasons to travel. What benefits did I miss?
